And throughout all of this, luck definitely does play a significant role, as most agents are not particularly in need of new clients, and most publishing houses are not in need of new books, as they already have so much on their plate. But even with all these obstacles in the way (which are enough to chase many people off the path of writing), there is no reason to quit; after all, every author with a book in bookstores started out at the beginning, and you never know – you just might be the next one to join them!

The key is this: Know that you may never make any money at all off your writing (let alone making enough to live off of!), but as long as you enjoy writing, you should keep doing it; at worst case, you get to do something you enjoy, even if you never make money off of it, and at best case, you will eventually be quitting your day job and writing all the time!

When you take these steps, you will be able to get the most out of your restaurant visits – turning them into a fun treat, instead of using them as a way to simply “eat dinner”!
