Which Is Better For Book-Buying, Stores Or Amazon?

If you are a regular book-buyer, or even if you are picking up the habit of shopping for books, you might be overwhelmed by all the options out there. You will see little independent bookstores here and there, and you will also see the big-name, big-building places like Borders and Barnes & Noble. And now, the Internet has added to the available options with such places as Amazon. If you are wondering where you can get the best deals on books, and where you should plan to shop, this guide can help you in narrowing down your choices.

Shoppers who want a huge selection and the convenience of finding what they need in one location will find these things in the big-name places like Borders and Barnes & Noble. Because these bookstores buy in bulk, they are also able to give out great deals on their books sometimes, and they even have rewards programs that can help you get books for free.

You will usually find a smaller selection and even slightly higher prices at independent bookstores, which are typically locally-owned. While it might seem absurd to consider shopping at an independent bookstore over a chain store when it means you will be spending more money, there are definite perks. By shopping at such bookstores, you can spend a couple extra dollars per book and not only support a local business, but can also support local authors as well; furthermore, the proprieters of such stores are usually very helpful and friendly.

And of course, the website Amazon has become the most popular book-buying option of all! If you have never shopped on Amazon before, you might assume that you will end up spending more money on there than in other places, due to the cost of shipping. But not only will you find a larger selection on Amazon than a bookstore could ever hope to offer, you will also find that they often have great deals on their books.

Buying your books at an indie bookstore will allow you to support a local business and local authors, and you should definitely consider going with this option. And if you are wanting to get a good deal on books for the time being, then take your business to Amazon for all your book-buying needs! It might seem inconvenient to have to wait for your books to arrive, but the convenience of shopping from home, as well as the great selection and great deals, make it more than worth it!

Making Natural Cat Repellent

You might love your cat to death, but this still does not negate the fact that cats tend to have a mind of their own and don’t especially care what you want them to do – and it will also not change the fact that there will be certain places in your yard or your house where you do not want your cat to go! If your cat happens to be especially stubborn, and you are trying to train them to stay away from certain areas, try some of these natural cat repellents and see what works to chase your cat away.

If the place you are needing to keep your cat away from is in your yard, there are a few different things you can try sprinkling on the spot you want to keep them away from (and try them one at a time, as different things work for different cats) – coffee grounds, dried rosemary, dried mustard, or cayenne pepper.

Cat Training Secrets!

If, on the other hand, you are needing to keep your cat away from a spot inside the house, you can steep such herbs as rosemary, cayenne, or lavender in boiling water for about five minutes, then strain the water and – after it cools – put it into a brand new spray bottle, using this bottle to spray the concoction in the areas you want to keep the cat away from.

Another option for keeping your cat out of certain areas in your yard is to plant these herbs cats don’t like – rosemary, lavender, or even garlic chives – putting them around the areas you want to keep cats away from as a sort of fence. Finally, you can try planting a plot of catnip in your yard – in an area you do not mind your cat visiting – as your cat will claim this area as their own and will thereafter be perfectly content to ignore most other areas in your yard! Of course, if you do this, you just might risk attracting a lot more cats than you ever hoped to have swarming around your yard!

Keeping Up With Your Pool

A pool can be one of the best parts of summer for you and your family, but with all the work it takes to keep your pool clean and in great shape for swimming, it can also seem like more work than it is actually worth! If you want to get optimal enjoyment out of your pool during the summer, it will be important for you to understand exactly what you need to understand in keeping your pool in great shape, as a thorough understanding makes things a whole lot easier.

Balancing the water: The pH, total alkalinity, and calcium in your pool will all affect one another, so you need to pay attention to all of them and make sure they all stay in balance. People often do not pay close enough attention to these elements of the water until something goes wrong, and then it becomes a monumental task to try to get things right again.

Chlorinate: If you have a pool, you surely understand the importance of keeping the chlorine levels where they should be, and you probably shock your pool once every two or three weeks, but in addition to doing this, you should keep an eye on your chlorine levels throughout the week, even adding chlorine throughout the week when the levels start to dip. And remember, the sun will break down chlorine in your water, so make sure the sun is going down before you add chlorine to your pool.

Keeping the pool clean: Nothing will ruin the clarity and the levels of your water more quickly than dirt and leaves hanging around in the pool for extended periods of time; always make sure you clean out the filter daily, skim any leaves or grass off the surface of the water, and use something that can clean the base of your pool on a consistent basis.

Once you keep all these things in mind, it will be much easier to keep up with the cleaning and maintenance of your pool, which will make it a whole lot more enjoyable throughout the summer!

Using Exercises To Relieve Anxiety

Dealing with stress and anxiety in your life can not only make your days far less enjoyable, but it can also adversely affect the health of your body. Of course, the best way to avoid this problem is to avoid situations that keep you from experiencing stress and anxiety – but this is not always possible! Lots of poeple simply “wait for it to go away” when they feel stressed and anxious, but there is a lot more you can do than this. By following these tips, you will learn how to “exercise away” this stress and anxiety when it tries to come and take you down.

Actually exercising is one of the best “exercises” to relieve stress and anxiety, as you will be able to release the tension in your body. One problem with using exercise to get rid of stress and anxiety is the fact that you will often get stressed at work – and it is more difficult to work out there. But actually, you can still work out while at work – by simply taking a walk around your building, or by keeping weights under your desk that you can pull out every once in a while to help you unwind.

Another great way to get rid of the tension that can build up in your body when you are feeling stressed and anxious is by doing some breathing exercises. Instead of focusing on the source from which your stress is coming, take deep, full breaths and focus on the rise and fall of your chest. Of course, with breathing exercises, the great thing is that they can be done any time of day, no matter where you are.

Another one of the easiest ways to relieve stress and tension that builds up in your body is by stretching. Stretching is another thing that you can do anywhere – in your home, at work, and even in your car – and in this way you can keep your muscles and the rest of your body loose.

When you are feeling stressed, it can sometimes be difficult to force yourself to take a moment to make sure you are relieving this stress and anxiety. But if you do this, you will find that you feel much better afterward, and will be ready to tackle the rest of the day.

How To Eat Healthy While Traveling For Work

When you are traveling for work, one of the most difficult things can be the fact that it is tough to find healthy food; after all, most restaurants are not especially healthy, and if you are busy during your work week, you could end up with no choices but fast food the whole time you are away. Regardless of whether you are going to be traveling for a few days or a few weeks, it will still be important for you to continue to eat healthy during your trip – and there are a few specific things that you can keep in mind in order to make this desire become a reality.

First of all, you have to remember that breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day, and you will be in much better shape moving forward when you can start out your day with a healthy breakfast; consider stocking your hotel room with fruit and juice that you can drink before the workday begins.

Bringing plenty of granola bars (or similar foods – such as granola or trail mix) with you on your trip is also a good thing to do, as these will be great for you to munch on in between your healthy breakfast and your lunch break – giving you energy and sustenance without putting bad things into your body.

Lunch will take up a little more of your time than normal if you want to eat healthy (as you will need to avoid fast food), but by doing some research you can find delis or other healthy eating spots around the place where you will be working, and you can make time to visit these places during lunch.

As for dinner, you should attempt to eat something light and healthy; rather than going for the steak and potatoes at a restaurant, consider getting a chicken salad or a hearty soup, and in this way you will be able to round out your day of healthy eating – despite being stuck traveling away from home!

Making Customers Feel Welcome Without Making Them Feel Overwhelmed

If you have your own company, one thing that will be important is that you make customers feel welcome when they walk in your store, but another thing that is important for you to realize is that it is also possible to make customers feel suffocated and overwhelmed; in order to increase the success of your business, it will be important that you have an understanding of the difference between making your customers feel comfortable and making them feel like they just want you to leave them alone!

You should greet a customer the moment they enter the store, and then you find out if there is anything they need help with; this is important, as a lot of people will greet a customer, wait for them to walk around for a bit, and then ask if they need help with anything – but when you ask as an addendum to the greeting, the customer will feel as though you are being helpful, without feeling as though you are being overbearing.

Another thing that tends to bother customers is a “hovering body”; you will want your customers to know that you are available to help them in any way they need and to answer any questions they have, but it is much better (and much more effective) to let them know you are ready to help by wearing a smile and remaining open and available with your body language than by sticking close to them and waiting for them to ask you a question.

And if the customer asks for your help, make sure you go over and above what is necessary in trying to help them, sticking with them as long as they need you – but not sticking with them any longer than they do!

It can be a fine line to walk, to be helpful to your customers without making them feel like you are bothering them, or like you are trying to “sell them something,” but as you keep these tips in mind, you will keep getting better at it – and eventually you will have no problem at all making your customers feel comfortable and right at home!

Understanding Card-Counting In Blackjack

One thing that people often hear about – and subsequently wonder about – is what it means when someone says that a person was “counting cards” in blackjack; there are a lot of stories (some of them quite fantastic!) about card counting, and there is a lot of confusion as to exactly what it is, whether or not it is legal, and whether or not it is advisable. While it is not illegal to count cards, it is certainly inadvisable, as casinos frown upon it (which means you could get yourself kicked out, without any chance of returning, if you are suspected of counting cards), and you could still lose loads of money – especially if you do it incorrectly; as with any games of chance, you will typically be doing yourself a favor, in the long run, if you only play them for fun – but if you have ever been curious about exactly what counting cards means, and exactly what it entails, this rundown will give you a clearer picture.

Card counting is rooted in the fact that cards 10 through Ace are more valuable than other cards, as these cards increase the chances of the player winning while also increasing the dealer’s chances of busting – while cards 2 through 6 are harmful, as they tilt the favor of the game toward the dealer.

The first step card counters take is assigning a value of plus-one to every card from 2 to 6, and of negative-one for every card from 10 to Ace (with nothing assigned to cards 7 through 9); as the cards fall on the table, the card counter will keep track of what the “count” is – so if 11 cards between two and six had fallen, with only three cards between 10 and Ace having fallen, the count would be plus-eight – with a high count signifying that there are a lot of high cards remaining in the deck, which means that the player is in good shape.

Of course, you would have to start at the beginning of a new shoe if you were wanting to count cards effectively (after all, it wouldn’t do you much good if you entered a game halfway into a 10-deck shoe!), and you also need to realize that a high count becomes more valuable as more cards leave the shoe – and as you keep these tips in mind, and as you practice, you just may find that “counting cards” is something you can tell your friends you are able to do.

Tips For Getting Vitamin D From The Sun

The word “vitamin” automatically notifies you that something that is important for your body is about to be talked about! But one of the most important vitamins of all – on that, in fact, not only helps your bones and your immune system stay healthy, but also helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases and cancer – is vitamin D, which you should always make sure you get enough of. And while there are foods that can get vitamin D into your system, the best way to get vitamin D is by spending time in the sun, as this enables your body to produce vitamin D on its own. But even though we might come to realize how important vitamin D is, and even though most of us enjoy getting out in the sun, it is still sometimes difficult to find a way to get into the sun each day.

Work is one of the biggest reasons why many people are unable to get the twenty minutes of sun each day that they should aim to get. With work, most people only have the weekends remaining in order to get vitamin D, and this is not enough time!

One thing you can try to do is take a walk in the evening, right when you get home from work; during the summer, it will stay light outside long enough for you to get some sun this way. You can also get out in the sun by going for a jog in the evening when you get home from work.

You can also go for a walk during the day, while you are at work; you can take this walk during lunch, or even during a short break from work – which can actually even be good for work! By taking short “walk breaks” during the day, you can collect your thoughts while also getting vitamin D into your body!

Eating your lunch outside is probably the most relaxing way to get vitamin D from the sun. If you pack your lunch (which you should do anyway, as this is much healthier for you!), you will have plenty of time to find a grassy area in the sun where you can enjoy your lunch.

Not only will your body begin to be healthier when you get enough sun on it, but you will also start to feel quite a bit healthier!

Seven Day Homemade Detox Program

You want to detox, but you don’t want to buy an over-the-counter detox or cleanse kit. A simple detox plan is all you need. Follow this detailed plan over the course of a week for an effective cleanse.

You’ll start off the week by cutting fats and sugars from your diet on Monday and Tuesday. Promise yourself you will not drink alcohol for the next seven days. Replace caffeine with non-caffeinated drinks for the next seven days.

Next you’ll take your diet to another level, removing meat, dairy, and processed foods, committing to a strictly vegan diet from Wednesday on through the rest of the week. Increase water intake.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Commit to a raw fruit and vegetable (oganic) diet for the last three days of the detox plan.

Your weekend detox plan should entail all of the following: Drink water, senna tea, fasting support tea, and Master Cleanse lemonade (lemon juice, water, cayenne pepper, and pure maple syrup, to taste) throughout all three days.

To avoid headaches or breaking the fast, east a piece of fruit every two hours or so. You’ll want to keep portions small, but alternate between raw fruit and raw vegetables. Be sure to wash the produce well to remove pesticides.

Faciliate bowel movements. Follow your body’s urges, which may mean you spend a significant amount of time in the restroom.

When detoxing, you’ll want to plan for enough downtime to catch up on sleep. Look for opportunities to nap or get a few extra Z’s.

A massage will further enhance your detox experience. Massage therapy helps your body release toxins. If you get a full-body Swedish or deep-tissue massage, your body will process waste much better, leaving you feeling all the more refreshed. Mention the fact that you are detoxing, and drink water before and after the massage.

Exercise every day, but keep it gentle. You will benefit from a hike, walk, or yoga session.

Cleanse your biggest organ, your skin. Enjoy lengthy showers, soaping up with all-natural products. When you’re dry, use a body brush to remove dead cells and stimulate the skin.

Once your week of detoxing is over, you’ll need to return to your regular ways with caution. Take this detox opportunity to change bad habits as you carefully reintroduce favorite foods, drinks, and activities.
