How To Get Along With Others On Your Project Team

Nothing can be worse than being on a project team at work and finding that you do not get along with the other people on your team. Of course – if the project will be going on for a while, and you will be stuck with these people every day – it is vital that you find a way to get along with them! In fact, you can follow these tips to get along with even the worst of them – without actually liking them at all!

You need to recognize, first and foremost, that it is not always important for you to prove that you are right. If you are on a team with a “know it all” who (naturally!) tends to be wrong most of the time, this can be especially difficult, but it is still important. As you start to realize that you do not always need to prove that you are right, you will also start to realize that there are many instances when the other person (or the other people) are wrong about something that will, in fact, have no bearing on the project. In this way, you need to learn to correct the rest of your team only when it is absolutely necessary – in essence, picking your battles.

You will likely encounter conflicts and frustrations with the way some of the others on your team work, and picking your battles extends to these situations also. In the end, if you only assert your strong opinions on a matter when it is actually important to do so, it will be better for both yourself and the project. Especially when you are around the same people every day, it can be difficult to be “the bigger man,” but this will pay off in the long run.

Being the “bigger man” also entails allowing others to take credit for work they did not do if they choose to try and mislead your superiors. In the end, your superiors will come to be aware of who did all the work, and they will also come to be aware of who did little or nothing.

Being on a project team can be about more than completing the project well; it can also be about simply surviving to the end! You will be able to not only survive to the end when you follow these tips, but you will also be able to thrive!

Getting Your Daily Ration Of Protein

One of the most important things you can take the time to give to your body is its daily portion of protein, as the positives protein provides for your body range from helping your muscles remain strong and healthy to helping your body maintain energy throughout the day; while most people understand the importance of protein, however, many people fail to pay close attention to how much protein they are getting – or, they are simply unaware of where they can go for their protein, which causes their quest to be much more difficult!

Of course, the best source of protein is meats, and while most people are aware of this, they often are unaware of the fact that certain meats are not only healthier for you, but also contain more protein; try to focus on lean meats (such as chicken and turkey) and on seafood, as these will give you better and healthier protein than red meat – and also be aware of the fact that organic meat is far better for you than inorganic meat, and in fact, organic red meat is even healthier for you than inorganic lean meat!

If you are not able to eat meat as often as you would like (or if you do not especially want to eat meat as often as you should in order to get your full amount of protein), the good news is that there is also nothing wrong with getting your protein through smoothies and protein bars; make sure that you are getting whey protein, as opposed to soy protein, and be aware of how much protein you are getting in these smoothies and bars, as you should aim to get a minimum of 50 grams of protein every day.

And also, you should know that there are a lot of snacks that can give you the protein you need, ranging from seeds to nuts to nut butter (such as peanut butter) to yogurt.

When you start to pay closer attention to how much protein you are getting, you will not only be increasing the health of your body, but will also be giving your body more energy, so start paying attention to the protein you are getting, and make sure you are providing your body with as much as it requires!

How To Design Your Business Card

If you want to promote yourself and your business to potential customers, one of the best things you can use is a business card.

A business card will ensure that you always have something handy that you can give out to people whenever the opportunity strikes. But while an effective business card can be a great tool, an ineffective business card can be a waste of time and money. Not only should your business card list a name and phone number, but it also needs to inspire people to call the number!

Even if you have a conversation with someone before giving your business card to them, they might not remember late where each business card they have came from. In fact, depending on the kind of person you give the card to, they might end up with a pocket full of business cards at the end of every day! In addition to clearly stating who you are and how you can be reached, your business card should also clearly state what you do. If your company’s name does not make it perfectly clear what the company does, at least make sure the card itself makes it perfectly clear!

A logo should also be included on the business card, but in a subtle manner, rather than in such a way that it takes over the whole card! The logo is an important element, but it should still only be one element of the card; put it in a place where it is noticeable, but is not the focal point.

It is worth spending a little bit of extra money to make sure your card looks professional, as a professional-looking card will inspire confidence. For instance: someone looking through a stack of business cards they have for plumbers is most likely to call the person whose card inspires the most confidence.

It is not difficult to make sure your business card helps your business stand out, but it is also not difficult for your business card to detract from your business! Take the time to make sure your business card is effective, and spend the extra money to make sure it looks great!

Teaching Study Skills To Your Students

Many students go through elementary school, middle school, and high school, and – in spite of the fact that they are given tests all throughout school – are never trained in the basics of study skills; when your students go through your class and never learn anything about study skills, they are left at a disadvantage for their future – both in college, and in life! The good news is that it is very easy to train your students in the basic components of study skills, no matter what subject you teach, and in order to teach this, you will not need to take up more than a small amount of classroom time every week.

The first thing you need to do is realize that – more than training them to pass tests – your job as a teacher is to train them to succeed in life, as this realization will make it much easier for you to include a bit of time each week for training them in study skills.

Your initial focus in training your students in study skills should be on training them in organizational skills, as they should know how to organize their notes and assignments, use a calendar to keep track of their assignments, and use to-do lists to know where their focus should be.

Next, you should proceed from “organization” to helping them understand how to use binders and folders to apply organization to their notes and assignments, as this will make studying easier in general.

Lastly, the most important aspect of studying properly is time management, and you need to help your students see this; allow your students to ask you questions about time management, and offer to look over their study schedules so that you can offer tips and suggestions for improvements and changes.

Even though you will lose a little bit of “curriculum” time by teaching your students about study skills, you will be giving them a skill that will help them to not only learn more and succeed in your class, but will also help them to learn more and succeed in life!

How To Travel Safely When Overseas

It can be a lot of fun to travel overseas – and in fact, for some people, it can be a dream come true – but it can also be dangerous to travel overseas; after all, when you are traveling overseas, you will be in new settings every day, and will be immersed in a totally new environment, and for this reason, it is important when you are traveling overseas that you know a few specific things you should do in order to keep yourself safe.

You will want to make sure you always know where you are by keeping a map on you and peeking at it periodically when you are traveling around a foreign city; of course, you will not want to pull out a huge map when you are standing at an intersection, as this will immediately mark you as a tourist (which will mark you as someone who is “vulnerable”!), but by discreetly peeking at your map periodically – and otherwise conducting yourself as if you know exactly what you are doing – you will keep yourself a whole lot safer.

You should also make sure you are only using means of transportation that are run by the city when you are making your way around the city; while it might seem like “fun” to catch a ride with the nice guy you met in a restaurant, the best way to stay safe when traveling overseas is to stick to the means of transportation that the city intends for you to use – subways, trains, taxis, and rental cars!

And even though “the worst” is unlikely to happen, you should always be prepared for it to happen just in case – and one of the best ways to be prepared for the worst when you are traveling overseas is to keep your money in different places, and to keep your passport well-hidden; try to divide your money among a few different places on your person, while also leaving some in your bag, and keep your passport in a travel pouch of some sort that is inside of your clothes.

Of course, a basic understanding of the language will also be handy when you are traveling overseas (and actually knowing the language would be even better!), but even without a grasp of the language, you can keep yourself safe when traveling overseas if you keep these simple tips in mind.

Tips For Framing People And Objects In Pictures

You will hear from professional photographers that owning a camera does not make you a professional photographer; and while there is a level of truth to this – after all, owning a basketball does not qualify you to play in the NBA, as you will not be able to reach that level without the talent, no matter how hard you work – this does not mean you cannot learn how to take good pictures. “Not having the talent” to play in the NBA does not mean that you will be unable to get a good jump shot, and in the same way, “not having the talent” to be a professional photographer should not hold you back from learning to take the best pictures you can!

The biggest mistake most amateur photographers make is that they try to frame the focus of the picture in the middle of the shot – but if you study photographs taken by professional photographers, you will find that most of them use the “rule of thirds,” which means picturing two lines that divide the shot into thirds, and lining up the focal point of the picture along one of these lines.

In addition to using the rule of thirds while taking a picture, you should also make sure you are paying attention to the background of the picture; not only should the people (or the object you are focused on) look good, but the background should look good as well!

And finally, pay attention to the “lines” of the picture; there are natural lines in everything you look at, and you will want to make sure these lines are composed in such a way that they enhance the picture, rather than making it more dull.

No matter what you hear from professional photographers, everyone has the ability to take good pictures – and when you pay attention to these three essential steps, you will be that much closer to taking pictures that make you feel satisfied with your efforts.

Understanding Things To Check On Your Car Before A Road Trip

For the most part, taking a road trip is a spontaneous sort of adventure, and even those road trips that have been planned in advance have a tendency to take on this persona, but in spite of the fact that “spontaneity” and “adventure” might be part of the fabric of your road trip, there are still some things you will want to make sure you are planning. You will probably be perfectly fine to pack up the car and go if you are taking a fairly new car on a road trip, but while this might be the case in a car that is a few years old, it might also not be the case, and for this reason, any car that is a few years old should be checked thoroughly before you leave in it for a road trip.

Safety is the first thing people tend to think of when it comes to “checking a car,” but if you are on a road trip, the first thing you will notice is comfort; if your cruise control goes out on you early in the trip, or if your air conditioner stops working, you will not enjoy the drive very much, so get these things checked before you hit the road, and you will avoid any serious discomfort!

The fact that some small things might cause your car to get worse gas mileage than it should is another thing you should remember, and on a road trip, this can make a big difference; make sure your tires are properly inflated before you head out, and make sure your engine is running smoothly, without any hitches or problems.

And of course, safety is definitely a concern when you are taking a road trip, so make sure the oil in your car has been changed before you head out, and have the engine looked over to make sure nothing will happen to it while you are on the road; also, check the lug nuts on the tires, check the safety features, and before you hit the road, make sure your car is prepared to bring you back home in one uninjured piece!

Three Tremendous Sailing Locations

If you own a sailboat, you probably already have your favorite sailing spots firmly entrenched in your mind. But if you do not own a sailboat, you can still live the dream of sailing on the open ocean, because all over the world you can find yachts and sailboats for rent. In fact, there is a lot to be said for renting a boat over owning one of your own. For boat owners, the time when a boat is not in use (and is needing to be moored or fixed up) can be a big headache; but for renters, it’s all about the fun. Furthermore, renters are free to travel all over the world, renting boats where they go and sailing wherever they choose. While there is surely great sailing all over the world, some of the best sailing can be found right around America.

The area off the northeast coasts of America is among the best sailing spots in the world. In fact, a lot of avid sailors claim that this area – from Chesapeake Bay to Cape Cod to the coasts of Maine – has the best sailing in the world. The wind in this area is always great for sailing, and even if the weather can be somewhat chilly even in the “warmer months,” it is tough to compete with the beauty of the area. As far as many are concerned, this is sailing the way it was meant to be.

Also, consider the Florida Keys as a sailing destination if you are thinking of finding something more laid-back and luxurious. The weather in this area is generally the opposite of the weather in the Northeast – always a treat. If you aspire to see yourself as a “true sailor,” this area might just feel a bit touristy for your tastes, but one reason why this area is so popular is, quite frankly, because it is a great place to visit.

To find the perfect blend of “true sailing” and great weather, you have to travel a bit further south than the Florida Keys, heading down to the British Virgin Islands. There are so many different places to visit down here, over a vast stretch of area, that you are likely to wish you could stay on your boat in these waters for a long, long time!

You can fulfill your sailing desires without straying too far from your home in America, no matter what your sailing desires might be. And if you do not own a boat of your own, the possibilities are especially endless.

Taking Care Of A Parakeet

To many people, the idea of owning a bird is a fun notion, as birds are pretty and have an almost magical aura, and while the first bird people think of when they think of “owning a bird” is a parrot, the idea of owning a parrot quickly loses its appeal when one realizes parrots usually live for over fifty years! The most popular pet bird is the parakeet, but before you go out and purchase one yourself, you need to make sure you know some things about them; after all, they might not live for fifty years, but they just might be a bigger commitment than you realized!

For starters, parakeets do live much longer than most people realize, as they will last for up to ten or fifteen years in captivity. For another thing, parakeets are not exactly the easiest birds in the world to care for, as they need to have a lot of direct, special attention.

Parakeets are extremely intelligent birds, but like most intelligent pets, you need to give them a proper amount of attention, or this intelligence will turn to boredom, which will turn to destructiveness; if you have a parakeet, you not only will need to make sure you spend at least thirty minutes with them each day (petting them and talking to them), but you will also need to give them about an hour of “flight time” each day.

Parakeets prefer to have companionship, so you should keep them in (at least) pairs, and you should also make sure their cage is wide enough to allow them to fly a bit and high enough for them to have some climbing space.

If you have the time to invest in a parakeet (a good rule of thumb is to think of them more the way you would think of a dog than the way you would think of a cat – as far as required attention), then they can be a truly rewarding pet; but make sure you will have the time and energy to invest in a parakeet, or you just might end up regretting your decision!
