Bonfires: Keeping Them Safe

Bonfires are always great to have any time you are out camping or hanging out on the beach at nighttime! But in addition to how fun bonfires are, they can also be dangerous if you are not careful, as they are quite literally an instance of “playing with fire.” Make sure you are aware of all these simple safety measures that you should take before you ever go out and build a bonfire of your own.

Before you even collect wood for your bonfire, the first thing you should do is dig a pit in which you will build the bonfire. With this pit as the home of your bonfire, you can make sure it stays in its home instead of spreading all across the ground.

You should also put rocks around this hole you dug, as this will also help you to keep the fire from spreading across the ground. You do not have to find huge rocks for this, but you need to make sure the rocks are large enough that they enable you to build a continuous ring around the pit.

Even though it can be tempting to use lighter fluid in order to get your bonfire started, you should never do this. When you use lighter fluid to start your bonfire, you can put yourself in a position you do not want to be in, as it can be difficult to predict what your fire will do. Instead, you should get the fire going by lighting a small amount of kindling, and then adding this kindling to other kindling you have stacked under the wood. This will be a little more work than dousing logs in lighter fluid and tossing a match in, but it will also be a lot safer!

Most people know that even a dying fire can start to spread, and that they should never leave a dying fire behind. But as bizarre as it is, many people will leave a live fire – going for a walk or for a bathroom break or for any number of other things; you should never leave a live fire unattended; always make sure someone is watching it!

Follow these simple tips, and you will always be able to enjoy a bonfire while camping or while hanging out on the beach without putting anyone in danger!

Choosing A Personal Trainer

You might be wanting to whip your body into shape right now, and if you are wanting this, you might have thought of using a personal trainer. Personal trainers can provide you with many benefits, including the creation of workouts that specifically fit your needs. Furthermore, personal trainers can give you instruction and attention that can prove to be invaluable. At the same time, however, you could run into a situation where your “knowledgeable expert” is not so knowledgeable after all! When you decide to go the route of a personal trainer, it is absolutely essential that you find one who is right for you.

As simple as it sounds, the best starting point for finding a good personal trainer is the same as the good starting point for a lot of things: ask people who know! You might have friends who have used a personal trainer before, or maybe someone runs a local website where people can chime in with their opinions about different gyms and personal trainers. If you know what to expect before you get involved with a personal trainer, you will be less surprised by the way things go!

Also, make sure that you are picking a personal trainer who fits your needs. Just because a friend of yours loved a particular personal trainer does not necessarily mean that the personal trainer in question is perfect for you; after all, what if your friend was wanting to accomplish something completely different with their workouts than what you are hoping to accomplish? Know what you are hoping to accomplish in your workouts, and find a personal trainer who can help make these goals a reality.

Finally, make sure you remind yourself that you are a big part of this plan to get yourself into shape! This means that it is not all about your personal trainer, because you will not always be with your personal trainer. You can make sure that you are doing your part by asking your personal trainer to help you come up with a plan that you can follow even when they are not with you.

Getting into shape is not really so difficult as some people pretend, and with a good personal trainer to help you it can be even easier. You will be happy with the end result if you have the motivation to succeed and a trainer who is a good fit for you.

Exploring Places To See When You Visit Boston

For people from other parts of the world, Boston is one of the biggest tourist destinations in America, as the city is rich with history and culture, but not only is Boston a great place for those from other countries to visit, but it is also a great place for Americans to visit; if you are planning a trip to Boston, there are a few specific areas of the city you will want to make sure you explore – and if you are not planning a trip to Boston, perhaps it is something that you should consider!

People call baseball “America’s Pastime,” and although it is not as popular as football these days, there is nothing that is held in higher esteem in Boston than their beloved Red Sox; part of the reason for this love of the Red Sox is the long and storied history of the team, but another part of it is their ballpark itself, as Fenway Park is the oldest – and is among the most storied – ballparks in Major League Baseball, and when you visit Boston, you should realize that seeing Fenway Park is a must!

Boston is also full of wonderful museums and other sites and experiences of great cultural and historical significance, but if you want to get a bit of culture while also having fun, you should consider stopping by the New England Aquarium; the New England Aquarium is one of the most renowned aquariums in the world, and it is a great way to have a bit of fun while also seeing and learning some really cool things!

And of course, when you visit any city, one thing you will want to make sure you do is sample the local cuisine – and in Boston, there is no better way to do this than to stop by the North End. The North End of Boston is packed with great historical significance, as it was the location of Paul Revere’s house, the Old North Church, and the start of Revere’s famous ride through the countryside, but the North End is also the Italian section of the city – and if you are looking for good food, there is no better place in the city for you to go, and there will probably be no place in the city you will be more excited to come back to again!

Tips For Enjoying Christmas While Saving Money

The giving of gifts is one of the biggest aspects of Christmas, but while some people have a lot of fun giving gifts, others see this as something that is extremely stressful; if you (or if you and your family) have ever gone through Christmas feeling like giving gifts is something stressful rather than fun, you may be taking the wrong approach – and the right approach does not necessarily have as much to do with spending more money as it has to do with knowing how to enjoy Christmas, even while saving money!

Establishing within your family the reason why all of you are exchanging gifts is the first step to enjoying Christmas even while you are working to save money; make sure that it is clear that none of you are giving gifts in order to get something in return, but rather, that you are each buying gifts for the others in your family in order to do something that is a blessing for them, which will make the actual purchasing of gifts of whole lot more fun for each person.

Once you and the members of your family have clearly established the reason why you are giving gifts, the next thing you will want to consider doing is setting a budget that each person in your family is allowed to spend on each person for whom they are buying gifts. When you do this and “require” that no one goes over budget, it will be a lot easier for everyone in your family to have fun buying gifts, as they will know exactly how much they’re going to spend, and will not have to worry about going overboard – instead being able to simply enjoy spending the money they have set aside!

And finally, as the recipient of gifts, realize that it is not about what you are getting so much as it is about appreciating what people are buying for you; after all, you can always spend your own money on the things you “need,” but you cannot always have the pleasure of receiving thoughtful gifts from other members of your family.

Creating Your Own Picture Frames

If you are like me and love photography but hate the price of frames, you should look into making your own. Believe it or not with the correct material making your own frames really isn’t that hard and it can save you a buck or two.

Molding from the store can make for great frames, if you learn how to do it correctly. You will need to measure the picture you wish to frame. Chair rail can be quite decorative when made into a frame. When you have picked out the board you wish to use, you will need to take a router and cut out a notch along the entire length of the board. This will be the notch the glass lays in, once your frame is complete.

Once this is done you will then need to take a miter box and saw and cut the 45 degree angles out of both ends. This will give your frame edges that great mitered look. Once you have that completed you can mock up the frame to make sure it is the correct size. This is a great time to make adjustments before the frame is put together.

Once you have the frame to the size you want, then you should put some wood glue on the edges and put it in a picture frame miter clamp. This will keep the frame together as the glue dries. You can also get a small set of finishing nails to help stabilize the joints at this time also.

Then you will need to measure the dimensions of the area you notched out for the glass to sit. This will give you the measurements for the glass your need to cut. Cutting glass is pretty easy with a glasscutting tool, but if you are not comfortable cutting your own glass there are many shops that are happy to do it for you. Once this is done put the glass and your picture into the frame. Then cut a piece of cardboard, the same size as the glass and place it over the picture to make a sandwhich between the glass and cardboard. The last step is to put the nails around the inside edges to keep the picture in place.

How To Write The First Draft Of A Novel

A lot of people have the idea that it would be fun to write a novel, but while they might have a great idea for a novel, and while they might even have moderately good (or even very good) writing skills, it can sometimes be difficult to know exactly how to get started; of course, there is no right or wrong way to get started, as long as you are able to finish in the end, but there are certain things that anyone would be well-served to keep in mind in starting a novel, as these are some things that tend to work for anyone who chooses to put them to use!

The first steps to writing a novel will be coming up with a general idea for the story, and coming up with the characters who will populate the story; you do not have to come up with a blow-by-blow rundown of everything that will happen in the story, but rather, come up with a simple outline of what you expect to happen, then insert the characters you have created and see where they take the story!

Consistency will be the next step to writing a novel, and this means setting a certain amount of time you expect to write each day, and even setting a time of day during which you will tackle this “certain amount of writing”; in theory, this part is easy, but keeping up with this writing every day is one of the most difficult parts of the process – and all the while, it is also one of the most important!

And a lot of people face the problem of overanalyzing things as they move through the first draft, wondering if the writing is good enough, or if the story is good enough, or if everything is polished enough. Realize, however, that when you finish the first draft, you will end up spending far more time editing the manuscript than you spent writing it, and during that time you will be able to clean up everything that requires cleaning up – but the hardest part of all is simply getting the story down on paper, so do not worry about how polished it is, but instead, just keep drumming away on it every single day!

Exercising By Jumping Rope

There are plenty of ways to stay in shape effectively, but some people enjoy changing up the approach they are taking to their workout, and others, quite frankly, are not a fan of the typical options such as “walking and jogging.” Whatever the case, it is good to explore new options for staying fit and healthy, and one option that is especially great is jumping rope. Jumping rope exercises your legs, of course, but that is not all it does; jumping rope also exercises your arms, your shoulders, your chest, and your abs – all at once!

You should think twice before picking up a jump rope if you have back problems or knee problems, as some people experience issues from jumping rope if they have these problems. For others, however, jumping rope can be a great workout that is relatively low-impact; best of all, it can be done at home, and it will not take up a whole bunch of your day!

Buying the right equipment is, of course, the first step to jumping rope; the biggest part of the equipment is the jump rope itself. And as for clothes, you should be able to get by with regular workout clothes – some good walking or running shoes and some athletic apparel. As for the jump rope itself, you will be surprised how much some jump ropes cost! If you want a quality product without paying extra money for things you do not really need, you simply need to find a simple, straightforward jump rope from a reputable company.

When you first start jumping rope, keep in mind the fact that your body might not register the fatigue until alter, which means you should start with a low count. Put yourself on a schedule, gradually increasing the repetitions and the speed over time, and as you follow this schedule, you will see a big difference in your body!

Jumping rope can be done outdoors, or – if the weather is bad and you have high enough ceilings – can even be done on tile in your foyer or kitchen. And once you get into it, you will start to see that jumping rope is a great full-body workout that you can engage in without even feeling like you are working out!

Should I Consider Self-Publishing?

You might be wondering if self-publishing is a good option for that book you wrote. After all, it can be a long process to go through an agent, an editor, and the publishing quagmire. The length of this process makes it seem like it might be best – might even make the most sense – to just get the book out there on your own! And while it is, in fact, easy to do this, there are a few things you will want to consider before you settle down with this decision.

Keep in mind that the entire publishing process exists for a reason. After all, there are plenty of instances where a book is written by someone who thinks people will enjoy it or benefit from it, but where no one else feels the same way! Publishers are in place as a barrier between those books that should not be published and those books that should be published. Of course, self-publishing does provide a way to go around this barrier instead of going through it. But it does mean that your road will be more difficult.

The existence of this barrier means that readers generally will pay more attention to a published book than to a self-published book. Readers are likely to look at your self-published book as something less legitimate, even if you self-published strictly to move the process along more quickly.

Another consideration is the channels of distribution opened up by publishing. In the same way that readers are less likely to take a book seriously if it is self-published, bookstores are less likely to carry a book if it has been self-published. With the name of a well-known publishing house behind you, you will find that a lot more doors are open to you.

Finally, you cannot hope to get the book “ready to sell” in the same way a professional editor at a publishing house can. After all, even the best-known authors in the world need another set of professional eyes to help their book truly be “ready.” Editors at these publishing houses spend a lot of time making sure everything in the book is exactly as it should be.

Certainly, if you are already well-known, or if you run a business that already has a lot of clients or customers, you can expedite the process and make more money per book by self-publishing. But think long and hard before making this decision; after all, publishing in the traditional manner might just prove to be worth the wait.

Shopping For Water Purification Tablets

There are a lot of times when you can find yourself in need of water purification tablets; camping and hiking are, of course, a couple such times, but so is travel in a foreign country. After all, you can experience some seriously unpleasant side effects from drinking water that is impure, or that your body is not used to drinking.

When it comes to water purification tablets, there are a lot of options; but also, a lot of these options aren’t all they are cracked up to be! Before you purchase a product, make sure you understand all the steps necessary to purify your water with that product, and make sure you know it works!

A lot of people make the mistake of buying the cheapest water purification tablets available, thinking that this is making their life a whole lot better! But while it only costs $5 for such products as ER Water Purification Tabs, $5 is more than you should be spending for unpurified water!

One option you can feel safe and comfortable using, knowing that the military itself trusts it, is Military Water Purification Tablets. If you use these tablets, however, make sure you know how to use them correctly – just as you should with any water purification method. Part of using this product correctly entails making sure the tablet is completely dissolved, and subsequently straining the water through a bandana or t-shirt to catch any undissolved particles. And as these tablets can be just as bad for you as the bad water if they are not fully dissolved, this is an extremely important step.

While the Military Water Purification Tablets cost just under $10, you can spend $20 for a bottle of Polar Pure Water Disinfectant With Iodine Crystals; this product has two huge advantages: 1) Its shelf life is indefinite, and 2) You can purify up to 2,000 liters of water with it! Most other options that you can find come in packs of 30 or 50 tablets, each of which purifies only one liter of water.

Take the time to do some research if you are going somewhere that will require you to have water purification tablets; after all, you would much rather have the right product and good water than the wrong product and bad!

How To Stay Safe While Snorkeling

If you plan to embark on a tropical vacation this year, one of the things you might be most excited about is the opportunity to do some snorkeling in a beautiful location, but while snorkeling can be a lot of fun, it can also be unsafe if you do not make sure you are taking the right approach. It is not difficult to stay safe while you are snorkeling, as long as you are aware of a few specific factors; here are some of the most important of those factors.

image

Remember that this is snorkeling: When you get out on a coral reef, it is easy to forget that you are snorkeling and not scuba diving; remember that the ocean is often a lot deeper than it looks, and you should be careful to make sure you are not diving so deep that you will be unable to hold your breath all the way back up!

Stay close to land (or your boat): Once you get out there and start exploring, you can quickly drift much further from land (or from your boat) than you should, and you will not end up realizing it until you are tired and start looking around for a place where you can rest!

Remember that you are not at home: As you explore, you might be tempted to poke around in areas that are not there for you to poke around in; the ocean is not your home, but it is home to a number of creatures you don’t want to mess with, so you should keep your hands out of holes if you don’t know what is inside!

Avoid sea grass: One of the “prizes” of a snorkeling trip is the opportunity to see a sea turtle up close, but while sea turtles hang out around sea grass, so do a lot of other creatures (such as sharks and barracudas) that you will not want to see up close!

By keeping these things in mind, you will be in much better shape when it comes to staying safe on your snorkeling adventure!
